The film is based on the book of the same name.

Is a comedy adventure set in a mythical world of burly Vikings and fire-breathing dragons. The story centers around a Viking teenager named Hiccup, who lives in Berk, where fighting dragons is a normal lifestyle. The teen's rather progressive views and offbeat sense of humor do not fall much good for those of his tribe or its chief ... who also happens to be Stoick the Vast, Hiccup's father. When you point to Hiccup Dragon Training with other Viking teens, Astrid, Snotlout, Fishlegs and the twins and Tuffnut and Ruffnut. Hiccup sees it as an opportunity to prove you have what it takes to be a warrior. But when he encounters an injured dragon, called "Night Fury" his world is turned upside down, and what started as a chance to prove his worth Hiccup becomes an opportunity to completely change the future course of the whole tribe.

But Hiccup's father refuses to accept your child as it is, Night Fury captures to go to the Island of Dragons to end the "nest" of these. In the attempt, all the Vikings who went to fight, they discover a giant dragon that threatens to devour. When it appears that the Vikings lost the fight, Hiccup and his friends come to help in the company of the dragons that had locked in Berk Island.

After releasing a Night Fury, Hiccup and his dragon friend fly to beat the giant dragon. Among the action of the fight, Hiccup and Night Fury become enveloped in a cloud of fire, falling onto the ground. Upon awakening, Hiccup discovers is back at home with Night Fury, but Hiccup realizes it lost something in the fight: his foot. Still, Hiccup was glad to know that the tribe will accept the dragons as friends.

The message is this film is about friendship, which is not only human beings mutual, but can also be between a human and an animal that is. Breaking stereotypes set by society (in this case, the Viking tribe) and persistent hiccups to make others understand that being different is not bad.
